LEAVES
2025
This body of work, "The Leaves" departs from traditional landscape photography to explore the ground as a
canvas for abstraction. It began with an encounter with the intricate patterns of fallen leaves,
leading to a deliberate pursuit of moments where nature presented itself not as a scene to be documented, but as
raw material for graphic expression. My intention is to transform transient seasonal events into permanent,
evocative images that challenge the viewer’s perception of both photography and the natural world.
The core of this series lies in the radical post-processing that shifts the images from representational
depictions of nature to bold, graphic art. The forms of the detritus—crisp shapes against the uniform expanse of
the forest floor, trails, or asphalt—are heavily manipulated to emphasize line, shape and extreme contrast. By
stripping away realistic detail, I aim to highlight the inherent structure and subtle chaos of these natural
phenomena, pushing them into the realm of the abstract and allowing the forms to exist as pure visual language.
The transition to a monochromatic palette was a crucial step in moving the work away from realism. The images
were initially rendered in stark black and white. This limited, stylized tonality scheme enhances the low-key graphic quality
and emotional resonance of each piece. It does not replicate reality; instead, it creates a deliberate,
tactile mood that complements the abstract nature of the organic forms.
The ultimate goal of this series is to create images that are both familiar and entirely new. I strive for the
final works to be almost indistinguishable from their natural origins, yet deeply evocative. By transforming a
fleeting moment of nature into a piece of graphic art, I invite the viewer to engage with the images on a purely
aesthetic and emotional level. These works blur the lines between the recognizable world and abstract
expression, capturing the silent, powerful mystery of the autumn ground.
